Reducing The Skills Gap

Reducing The Skills Gap
The Reducing the Skills Gap programme was designed to meet the needs of both employers and young people following research into youth unemployment. It is co-ordinated and delivered by youth charity Youth Focus: North East. The programme was co-designed and is co-delivered by young people, addressing a number of key skills which employers have cited as lacking in some youngsters today, including: communication, professionalism, confidence, time management, teamwork, motivation and enthusiasm and commitment. The programme also includes a placement within a workplace setting and each young person attends an interview with an HR specialist at the start and also the end of the programme. As learners progress through the programme they will be able to get recognition of their learning and achievements with an open badge endorsed by City & Guilds and the Federation of Small Businesses. Each badge is based on one of the five key skills areas with additional ones for interview experienced, work experienced and for young people who become a young trainer.
