  1. Task 1 Understand the Cover Letter

You should demonstrate your understanding of the purpose of a cover letter and the information that should be included in it.

You should include an overall description of the purpose of a cover letter, and at least five pieces of information which should be included in it. You can present this in any way you wish, either by text, a mind-map, an image, a video, or in any other format.

  2. Task 2 Identify a Potential Employer

Demonstrate that you have researched a company and thought about the information that they would be expecting to see in a cover letter.

You should document your journey of researching this organisation, including the sources you used and the skills that they are looking for. You can present this in any way you wish, either by text, a mind-map, an image, a video, or in any other format.

  3. Task 3 Draft your Cover Letter

You should now use the information from Tasks 1 and 2 to create a first draft of a cover letter. Once you have uploaded your cover letter, you should also discuss it with someone. This can be a friend, tutor, fellow student, or family member.

  4. Task 4 Act on Feedback

You have now created a cover letter based upon your understanding of a cover letter and your research into the organisation. You have also met with and reviewed this cover letter with someone else to get feedback.
Now reflect on your discussion. What did they think about that you had not? What do you feel you know now that you did not know beforehand? And what do you need to do to make your cover letter a better cover letter?

You should share a short reflective piece that demonstrates what you have learned from your meeting and the changes you now plan to make to your cover letter. You may do this in the form of a piece of writing (minimum 200 words) or a short video (minimum 1 minute).

  5. Task 5 Update and Upload Your Cover Letter

Now make the changes that you need to make to your cover letter and upload your final cover letter. When you have done so, submit your application for this Cover Letter badge.
