This badge recognises the achievements of students who have carried out the role of Student Representative over one academic year. This badge evidences that the student has committed their time to representing peers on their course in academic forums over the past academic year and has completed training, attended meetings and carried out the duties of a Rep.

  1. Task 1 Timekeeping and Personal Organisation

    These skills are essential to fitting your academic work around your extra-curricular activities. As a Rep you are required to attend meetings and engage in a variety of activities to voice the opinions of students and shape the work of the University. There are also a number of focus groups, events and projects that Reps play an important role in.
    You should have collected evidence over the year relating to your participation in such meetings and events, and demonstrating your time management and personal organisation skills.

    Evidence:

    • Submit links/screenshots to evidence of your attendance at Student Forums and other Rep Events (Student Forum minutes, pictures at events, personal reflection)
    • Submit copies of your minutes (SCR’s)
    • Submit evidence of events and focus groups you have attended (agendas, pictures at events, personal reflection)
    • Other evidence of activity you feel is relevant
    • Completed Rep workbook/planner/organiser showing the events you have planned to attend in advance.

  2. Task 2 Communication

    Effective communication is vital for successfully representing students. Student Representatives are responsible for reaching out to students on their course, in their School, Faculty and across the University to gather feedback. This can be done in a variety of ways including: at forums, through email, focus groups, surveys, face to face, feedback postcards etc. Please list below any evidence relating to your development and use of feedback methods, participation in outreach and events in order to demonstrate your communication skills.

    Evidence:

    • Feedback methods (photos and screenshots of feedback methods such as postcards, surveys, social media groups etc.
    • Evidence of discussion at student forums through minutes
    • Support on Rep recruitment and outreach events
    • Evidence of using the Reps Comms Pack
    • Evidence of giving presentations in class or during induction talks (pictures), email from staff members or reps staff showing that you have been assigned to induction talks or organised separate Rep presentations.

  3. Task 3 Problem Solving and Negotiation

    Working closely with students and staff helps you to maximise your impact as a Rep. You should be looking at constructive solutions to respond to students’ ideas, issues and feedback, and working with staff to put these into action. Please share some examples of where you have completed this to benefit Coventry University students.

    Evidence:

    • Examples demonstrating where you worked with student’s feedback and provided constructive ideas to resolve or implement student feedback. (Screen shots of email conversations, action logs, personal reflection etc.)

  4. Task 4 Leadership

    Student Representatives are leaders for their course area, School, Faculty and University. The Reps Department provide you with training that enables you to lead as a student representative and also offer a number of other opportunities for you to demonstrate your leadership skills. How have you worked to overcome a problem? How have you supported students to put forward an idea?

    Evidence:

    • Demonstrate that you have undertaken training
    • Reflect on progression through Rep System
    • Evidence that you attended Academic Zone/Student Council
    • Evidence that you presented during induction talks or other Rep presentations

  5. Task 5 Personal reflection

    Please provide a 200 word reflection/2 minute video log reflecting on your experience of being a Rep. Please use photos and other relevant evidence. Your reflection should include responses to the following questions:

    • What is my proudest achievement while being a Rep?
    • What transferrable skills have I developed and how have I learned/improved them?
    • How I have impacted the student experience in my school / faculty / university?
