The simplest way to find your AI potential is to identify intelligence gaps in the business, build a portfolio of AI data stories to fill those gaps, and identify specific business value targets for each story. In this badge, you will create a data story that describes how AI could be applied in the company. The AI data stories represent a portfolio of experiments that should drive your AI innovation program.

  1. Task 1 Define the overall business goal of AI

Your business has areas where, if you made better use of the information available, you could show significant improvement. Perhaps you could improve the way you monitor and predict failure. Or perhaps you could automate certain executive decisions.

Choose an organization. Brainstorm on areas of the organization with the largest intelligence gaps. Create a map describing the top 2-5 intelligence gaps-- areas of the organization that will benefit from applied AI.

  2. Task 2 Develop a portfolio of data stories

The AI data stories represent a portfolio of experiments that should drive your AI innovation program. Each data story can be distilled down to a minimal hypothesis that should be used to drive the development of individual projects.

In the map from Task 1, fill the intelligence gaps with the names of hypothetical AI data stories and your best guess at their business impact. Each story describes how AI could be applied in the company. Each story will connect to a stakeholder aspiration, solve a problem, and have a measurable impact on the organization.

  3. Task 3 Map an AI-driven transformation

Each individual data story can be linked, in dependency order, into a comprehensive story arc that describes how AI could transform your organization. The result is a roadmap that shows how AI experiments might provide a progression from the stakeholder’s current state to an intended future state.

In the map from task 2, link each data story in order of dependency. Submit the resulting map image for review and approval.

  4. Task 4 Tell a data story

An AI data story describes how AI could be applied in the company. Like any good story, it has a setting, a plot, and resolution. Your application of AI is the hero that resolves some important problem. In the same way that every hero needs a good villain, every good application of AI data needs a specific measurable business metric to improve.

Choose a single data story from Task 3 and document the details. In the supporting media, we've included an example of how to document a data story. Submit your detailed data story for review and approval.
